Love....and Marriage

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day so the Monday Listicles topic is 10 Things Love.

Last year at this time I wrote a post about how I just don't expect much romance from Mark, and how I'm mostly OK with it.  Last week, for Did You Know?, I wrote about how Valentine's Day came to be.

As I'm sitting here writing this, my mind is on the loss of Whitney Houston, THE diva of my generation who sang some of the best love songs ever sung. The most memorable is obviously I Will Always Love You from The Bodyguard soundtrack. I cannot tell you how many times I turned that song up and sang at the top of my lungs with Whitney! That movie came out in 1992, the year I graduated high school and had my second eye surgery. I listened to that soundtrack A LOT. Don't even get me started on The Greatest Love of All, which I'm sure had a positive influence on many girls my age. And I know we all remember the single greatest performance of our National Anthem at Super Bowl XXV in 1991.

I couldn't help but be thinking about Whitney Houston when thinking about love. But this is a Listicle!

How 'bout....

It would be nice if my Valentine's Day went like this:

1. Roses

2. Jewelry

3. Fancy Dinner

4. Decadent dessert

5. Sex

My Valentine's Day will probably go more like this:

6. Dialysis for Mark

7. Housework for me

8. Kids' tutoring

9. Dinner at Red Robin for all 4 of us

10. TV

Yup, such is the life while raising a family. But it's OK, because I will be with the people I love the most, and that's what really matters.

I made this. Feel free to Pin it!

  2. I cannot even begin to tell you why, but the comment about going out for dinner at the Red Robin cracked me up . . . I have never even been in one before.
We don't celebrate Valentine's Day . . . it is just too much of a Hallmark Holiday for me.

  4. I babysit a girl for a friend, so even though my hubby is actually off work on Valentine's (a small miracle in of itself), we will be surrounded by 2 of our own kids, plus one extra. not very romantic.
will try to make the best of it and bake lots of fresh cookies! LOL

  5. I LOVED your take on this list!! Had me giggling a bit. Isn't it sadly true that our wouldn't it be nice are really just fantasy, but reality is what it is isn't it. Is is really that bad? We do have our families! Enjoy your day!!! -LV

  6. We don't do anything for Valentine's Day. Hubs says "Valentine's Day is for the young who need an excuse to have sex. We've been together for 16 years. We don't need an excuse to have sex. We look for excuses not to have sex." :)

    1. I suppose that's true. I guess I have to agree that mature love doesn't really need all that stuff.

  7. Your day (minus the dialysis) sounds a lot like mine is going to be. I guess that's true love! (-:

  8. Your list brought a tear to my eye. Truthful and honest and like most of us... a designated "day" doesn't mean we get sex. LOL! Friend in town tomorrow; so we might go out to dinner, but it might just be busy and noisy; oh well! Love to you!

    1. Yeah, can't say I really mind either. Besides, we still have our wedding anniversary to focus on us.

  11. I am a fan of Red Robin's strawberry lemonade, so it doesn't sound too bad to me. I think our Valentine's day might be pretty family centric too.
