Last year at this time I wrote a post about how I just don't expect much romance from Mark, and how I'm mostly OK with it. Last week, for Did You Know?, I wrote about how Valentine's Day came to be.
As I'm sitting here writing this, my mind is on the loss of Whitney Houston, THE diva of my generation who sang some of the best love songs ever sung. The most memorable is obviously I Will Always Love You from The Bodyguard soundtrack. I cannot tell you how many times I turned that song up and sang at the top of my lungs with Whitney! That movie came out in 1992, the year I graduated high school and had my second eye surgery. I listened to that soundtrack A LOT. Don't even get me started on The Greatest Love of All, which I'm sure had a positive influence on many girls my age. And I know we all remember the single greatest performance of our National Anthem at Super Bowl XXV in 1991.
I couldn't help but be thinking about Whitney Houston when thinking about love. But this is a Listicle!
How 'bout....
It would be nice if my Valentine's Day went like this:
1. Roses
2. Jewelry
3. Fancy Dinner
4. Decadent dessert
5. Sex
My Valentine's Day will probably go more like this:
6. Dialysis for Mark
7. Housework for me
8. Kids' tutoring
9. Dinner at Red Robin for all 4 of us
10. TV
Yup, such is the life while raising a family. But it's OK, because I will be with the people I love the most, and that's what really matters.

yeah i'm not sure what i'd do if i got some sex.
ReplyDeleteWhitney's passing made my stomach all icky feeling. :(
I'm very sad about Whitney. She shouldn't be gone.
DeleteI cannot even begin to tell you why, but the comment about going out for dinner at the Red Robin cracked me up . . . I have never even been in one before.
ReplyDeleteWe don't celebrate Valentine's Day . . . it is just too much of a Hallmark Holiday for me.
Jenn
Red Robin has the best french fries! Mark's favorite!
DeleteOh yes, Red Robin french fries are so delicious. SOOOOO delicious!
ReplyDeleteThe burgers aren't bad either!
DeleteI babysit a girl for a friend, so even though my hubby is actually off work on Valentine's (a small miracle in of itself), we will be surrounded by 2 of our own kids, plus one extra. not very romantic.
ReplyDeletewill try to make the best of it and bake lots of fresh cookies! LOL
Mark is off tomorrow too, but I'm sure we'll just be taking care of business-y stuff since we just got our tax return.
DeleteI LOVED your take on this list!! Had me giggling a bit. Isn't it sadly true that our wouldn't it be nice are really just fantasy, but reality is what it is isn't it. Is is really that bad? We do have our families! Enjoy your day!!! -LV
ReplyDeleteYou do the same!
DeleteWe don't do anything for Valentine's Day. Hubs says "Valentine's Day is for the young who need an excuse to have sex. We've been together for 16 years. We don't need an excuse to have sex. We look for excuses not to have sex." :)
ReplyDeleteI suppose that's true. I guess I have to agree that mature love doesn't really need all that stuff.
DeleteYour day (minus the dialysis) sounds a lot like mine is going to be. I guess that's true love! (-:
ReplyDeleteLooks like that's how we define true love, anyhow!
DeleteYour list brought a tear to my eye. Truthful and honest and like most of us... a designated "day" doesn't mean we get sex. LOL! Friend in town tomorrow; so we might go out to dinner, but it might just be busy and noisy; oh well! Love to you!
ReplyDeleteMom, does anything I write NOT make you cry? Sheesh!
DeleteSo, so, so true! I'm just happy if we get to do something fun as a family these days!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm hoping the kids will be deserving of dinner out!
DeleteWe will also have a family Valentine's Day. I like it that way, so it's okay :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, can't say I really mind either. Besides, we still have our wedding anniversary to focus on us.
DeleteI am a fan of Red Robin's strawberry lemonade, so it doesn't sound too bad to me. I think our Valentine's day might be pretty family centric too.
ReplyDeleteMy kids really like the strawberry lemonade too.
DeleteShe was such a beautiful singer. How sad to talk about her in the past tense. Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you at least get some good smoochin.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad that she died. It's just sad.
DeleteDinner with all the people you love doesn't sound too bad to me! I hope you have fun with your three dates!
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteTruer words were never spoken, both about the beautiful Whitney and about how Valentine's Day is most likely to go. lol But, you're right, at this point it's about being with the ones you love, whatever that looks like. Happy hearts day!
ReplyDeleteIt's about being with the ones you love. Cuz the alternative would suck!
DeleteSo crazy about Whitney. I can't get her songs out of my head. It was nice of you to mention it.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
I know me too...one song after another keeps floating thru my head. Happy to you too!
DeleteI just had Red robin for the first time today! loved it! YUUUMMMM!
ReplyDeleteOh cool!
DeleteAmber cracked me up. Love your list. The fantasy is nice but that steady, constant glow is pretty darn good too. Have a great Valentines with the family.
ReplyDeleteLoved your post!
DeleteOh Jen, in the end everyday life I think is so much better then the fairytales. I for one, just like you, wouldn't want it any other way :) Great post, Happy everything love day xo
ReplyDeleteHope you've had a good day!
DeleteHope you get what you wish for valentines day. I'm celebrating it post valentine as it's works out more practical as prices are double just for that day.
ReplyDeleteExcept for a hyper little boy, we've had a pretty good day.
DeleteRed Robin is yummy! Atleast you are spending the day with the ones your love! Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, you too!
DeleteThat's funny... Adam and I had RR too!
