Groundhog Day was last weekend.
Why does seeing a shadow mean 6 more weeks of winter?
Seems to me that if he sees his shadow, the sun must be out, which would say to me that perhaps winter is almost over.
For that matter, why is a groundhog a weather forecaster?

Prior to meterology being a science the native people looked to the groundhog. Is the groundhog wet? It must be raining.
